Latest AABB Publication Explores Research Design in Transfusion Medicine

April 15, 2026

AABB recently published Research Design in Transfusion Medicine, a first-of-its-kind publication that examines a range of methodological approaches used in the field. It is available in both print and digital formats.

Edited by Quentin Eichbaum, MD, PhD, MPH, MFA, MMHC, MA, MSc, MMEd, FCAP, FASCP, the book is intended for both trainees and mid- to late-career investigators seeking to strengthen or expand their research methodology.

The book is organized into five sections. The first focuses on research preparation and its role as a critical foundation for developing and executing successful studies, particularly in an environment of constrained time and resources. Subsequent sections examine a range of research designs, including traditional approaches and newer and emerging methodologies.

Across chapters, authors describe how specific designs can be used to answer research questions and identify potential limitations. Most chapters also include appendices that present examples of research reports and discuss how effectively each study design was applied.
