AABB's Coagulation and Hemostasis Subsection recently released a new column, Laboratory and Clinical Perspectives on Mixing Studies.
In the column, Shiu-Ki Rocky Hui, MD, explores the role of mixing studies in the evaluation of prolonged prothrombin time (PT) and activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT) results. He also examines the benefits and limitations of mixing studies from laboratory, pathologist and clinician perspectives; discusses challenges related to assay implementation and interpretation; and highlights the importance of considering the patient's clinical context when using these studies to guide decision-making.
AABB encourages members to read the full column and access additional resources in the Coagulation and Hemostasis Resource Center.
