Blood Products Availability

Blood Products Availability is published biweekly on the AABB Newsfeed and in Weekly Report. This estimate is based on data from AABB's National Blood Exchange.

Platelets

Demand for platelets is met within 24 hours due to strong nationwide availability.

Red Blood Cells

The availability of red blood cells typically improves as autumn approaches. However, demand remains strong for O-positive and B-negative blood in parts of the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. Other blood types are plentiful and available for immediate sharing.

A strong, nationwide surplus of pooled cryoprecipitate continues to keep pace with demand. However, single-donor cryoprecipitate is becoming more challenging to source as production declines. Demand for type A and type B FFP is elevated in some areas, while demand for type O is increasing. A moderate surplus of type AB FFP is meeting all known needs.
