AABB Publishes Summary of 2027 Hospital OPPS Proposed Rule

AABB released a summary of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS)'s proposed rule updating Medicare payment rates and policies under the Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS) and the Ambulatory Surgical Center Payment System for calendar year (CY) 2027.

The summary describes key provisions relevant to the blood and biotherapies community, including payment policies and rates for transfusion medicine, cellular therapies and chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy. The summary also features tables of proposed payment rates for blood and blood products, as well as transfusion, apheresis and stem cell procedures.
