AABB Foundation Recognizes Tamar Perla Feldman as 2026 Scholar

The AABB Foundation has named Tamar Perla Feldman, PhD, a scientist at the American Red Cross, a 2026 AABB Foundation Scholar.

Feldman earned this distinction following completion of her AABB Foundation-funded research advancing a fluorescence-based method to trace the lifespan and cell state of platelets after transfusion. Alternatives to radioisotope labeling have the potential to open new avenues to evaluate innovative platelet products for regulatory licensure and to generate mechanistic insight to improve transfusion research and product development.

"The AABB Foundation's support enabled early-stage methodological development that is difficult to fund by traditional mechanisms but necessary to grow a research program," she said. "Equally important, the award connected me with valuable collaborators and allowed me to benefit from the insight and mentorship of leading scientists and clinicians in transfusion medicine."

Feldman's research focuses on developing and translating fluorescent platelet-labeling platforms to first-in-human studies, enabling safer and more informative assessment of platelet product quality and function.

The AABB Foundation will honor Feldman at the 2026 AABB Annual Meeting for her scientific contributions.
