Blood Products Availability

August 05, 2026

Blood Products Availability is published biweekly on the AABB Newsfeed and in Weekly Report. This estimate is based on data from AABB's National Blood Exchange.

Platelets

National platelet inventories remain strong, with low demand contributing to an overall surplus.

Red Blood Cells

The seasonal summer blood shortage continues, although demand for O-positive blood has eased over the past two weeks. A low-level need for B-negative blood persists, with fulfillment taking several days. Supplies of A-positive and B-positive blood remain at moderate levels.

Frozen Products

Demand for both single-donor and pooled cryoprecipitate remains steady, with ample pooled inventory meeting current needs. However, single-donor cryoprecipitate is becoming more difficult to source as production declines. Fresh frozen plasma (FFP) inventories remain strong nationwide, readily supporting demand for type A, type B and type AB plasma.

AABB's team of industry-trained professionals can help when inventory levels are seasonally low. AABB's National Blood Exchange is a partner benefit for all AABB institutional members.
