Two blood centers in India and the Philippines recently earned certification under the second edition of AABB's Fundamental Standards for Blood Collection and Transfusion.

The Rotary Bangalore TTK Blood Center, part of Bangalore Medical Services Trust in Bangalore, India, recertified under the second edition. Led by Ankit Mathur, MD, the blood bank completed its recertification on Sept. 16, reflecting its continued commitment to quality and safety in blood collection and transfusion practices.

In the Philippines, the Soccksargen Regional Blood Center in Cotabato City certified under the Fundamental Standards on Sept. 23. The blood center, led by Sherjan P. Kalim, MD, is the first center in the Philippines to earn AABB certification.

About the Fundamental Standards

Designed for facilities outside of the United States, AABB’s Fundamental Standards provide an entry point for implementing a quality systems approach in blood banks and transfusion services. The standards are built on AABB’s Quality Systems Essentials and outline core requirements for leadership, documented policies and procedures, equipment qualification and maintenance, and staff training and competency.
