AABB Foundation Names Recipient of 2026 Dennis J. Hlavinka Travel Award

The AABB Foundation has named Hsin-Yin Chuang, PhD, as the recipient of the 2026 Dennis J. Hlavinka Travel Award. Chuang is a postdoctoral researcher in the Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering at Marquette University and the Medical College of Wisconsin.

The award supports the attendance and participation of early-career biomedical engineers at the AABB Annual Meeting, which begins Saturday in Atlanta. The award honors Dennis J. Hlavinka, a biomedical engineer who spent nearly five decades with Terumo Blood and Cell Technologies and its predecessor organizations. Hlavinka was named a co-inventor on hundreds of U.S. and international patents involving blood component separation, automated fluid handling and medical device technologies.

The AABB Foundation thanks everyone who helped establish the Dennis J. Hlavinka Legacy Fund, with special thanks to Terumo Blood and Cell Technologies for its contribution.
