Health officials from several Northeastern states and New York City launched the Northeast Public Health Collaborative in response to recent events at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The partnership, informally established months ago, aims to “share expertise, improve coordination, and promote and protect evidence-based public health.”
The partnership includes interjurisdictional working groups focused on emergency preparedness, vaccines, data collection, infectious disease, epidemiology and laboratory services. It issued its first recommendations for the 2025–26 COVID-19 vaccine season on Sept. 15.
The collaborative includes Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont and New York City.
The governors of California, Oregon and Washington announced a similar collaboration, the West Coast Health Alliance, on Sept. 3.
