AABB2025: Prehospital Transfusion Workshop to Focus on Building Effective EMS Programs

AABB will host a half-day workshop at the 2025 AABB Annual Meeting to provide practical guidance for designing, launching and sustaining prehospital transfusion programs. The interactive session will cover the full continuum of prehospital transfusion care, from foundational frameworks to real-world practice.

Speakers will explore AABB’s new Standards for Emergency Prehospital and Scheduled Out-of-Hospital Transfusions, accreditation pathways for EMS agencies and quality oversight requirements. The workshop will also highlight the roles of blood centers and hospitals in supporting prehospital transfusion and share strategies to integrate these programs into trauma care. The session will include a review of EMS case studies to illustrate implementation models, outcomes and lessons learned.

Panel discussions and audience question-and-answer segments will offer opportunities to address common barriers, share practical solutions and identify approaches for scaling programs to meet needs.
