The 14th edition of AABB’s Standards for Immunohematology Reference Laboratories (IRL Standards) is now available in the AABB Store.
The updated standards introduce new requirements for laboratories to notify AABB of changes that may affect accreditation status and to report regulatory enforcement actions by a relevant competent authority.
Additional revisions require laboratories to implement risk-based monitoring of technology infrastructure at defined intervals and to establish a defined process to detect titration testing errors through appropriate daily controls when titration testing is performed.
AABB’s IRL Standards Committee released a document that outlines significant changes to the 14th edition and the committee’s responses to public comments.
The standards take effect April 1 and are available in electronic format and print formats or as a bundle of both versions. AABB also offers a print bundle that includes the standards and the Guidance for Standards for Immunohematology Reference Laboratories.
Organizations interested in adopting the standards can participate in a complimentary two-week trial of the electronic version in the Standards Portal.
