AABB Accepting Feedback to Shape Draft 6th Edition of PBM Standards

AABB’s Patient Blood Management Standards Committee is soliciting feedback to help guide updates to the 6th edition of Standards for a Patient Blood Management Program.

The draft edition is based on the current 5th edition of Standards for a Patient Blood Management Program. Those who do not have access to the current edition may request two-week trial access to the Standards Portal by contacting standards@aabb.org.

The submission deadline is July 8. The Patient Blood Management Standards Committee asks individuals submitting comments to identify the relevant standard number at the beginning of each comment, particularly if providing feedback on multiple standards. The committee also encourages commenters to suggest alternative wording if it would improve clarity and to provide supporting rationale or data when expressing strong agreement or disagreement with a standard.

The committee will meet shortly after the July 8 deadline to review submissions and prepare the proposed 6th edition for member and public comments. AABB will open a 60-day public comment period in August following the release of the proposed standards.
