The Patient Blood Management Standards Committee (PBM SC) has requested feedback to the DRAFT 6th edition of Standards for a Patient Blood Management Program (i.e, the final 5th edition of Standards for a Patient Blood Management Program) before the PBM SC meets to draft and finalize the proposed 6th edition of Standards for a Patient Blood Management Program.
The PBM SC requests that individuals with comments submit them no later than Wednesday, July 8, 2026 as they will be meeting shortly thereafter.
If you do not have access to the final 5th edition of Standards for a Patient Blood Management Program, please email standards@aabb.org to request a two week trial access to the 5th edition in the Standards Portal.
The PBM SC requests that in your comments you identify the standard by its number at the beginning of the comments, especially if you plan to comment on more than one standard and provide alternative wording if you think it would improve the clarity of a standard. If you agree or disagree strongly with a current standard, please state your reasons or submit data.
Please note, AABB will continue to hold the 60-day open comment period following the release of the proposed 6th edition of Standards for a Patient Blood Management Program, currently scheduled to begin in August 2026. Submitting comments prior to the July 8th deadline will help guide the PBM SC as it works on the next edition.
