AABB Releases 12th Edition of Perioperative Standards

The 12th edition of AABB's Standards for Perioperative Autologous Blood Collection and Administration (Perioperative Standards) is now available in the AABB Store.

The 12th edition adds requirements for training and competency of staff at third-party providers of perioperative services and for managing personnel workload to protect patient safety. It also requires clear labeling of blood and blood components for perioperative administration or reinfusion, and policies, processes and procedures for programs that use alternative physiological wash fluid or normothermic machine perfusion for organ procurement.

The updated standards take effect Jan. 1 and are available in electronic and print formats or as a bundle of both versions. AABB also offers a print bundle that includes the standards and the Guidance for Standards for Perioperative Autologous Blood Collection and Administration.
