AABB-Accredited Facility Biotherapies Services Spotlight Series August 2024: Gift of Lift Biologics

AABB interviews Eric Strati, CEO of Gift of Life Biologics, an AABB-Accredited facility.

Please introduce yourself and tell us about your facility and the key programs it offers. What is your role?

My name is Eric Strati, CEO of Gift of Life Biologics. Gift of Life Biologics has exclusive access to Gift of Life Marrow Registry to develop and provide cellular material (starting material/leukopaks) for biopharmaceutical and research organizations.

Tell us more about your facility's specialties. What would you say makes it stand out in the industry?

Gift of Life Biologics is the only fully integrated provider of cellular material, featuring an apheresis center and a cell and gene lab for cell processing, isolation and cryopreservation – all supported by a world-renowned registry of approximately 500,000 highly characterized healthy donors. The facility spans 50,000 square feet and offers products for both research use only (RUO) and GTP/GMP purposes. Our integrated approach enables us to consistently provide the highest quality material and meet the custom and complex requirements of the life science field in the most cost-effective manner.

What is one of your facility’s achievements that has made you particularly proud? How does it align with your facility’s overall mission and goals?

I am most proud of how Gift of Life Biologics, with the full support of the Gift of Life Marrow Registry, has quickly evolved to offer a broad range of products. These include both RUO and GTP/GMP products, dual-mobilized leukopaks, various cell isolation offerings and the launch of our biobank. This further enables the industry to advance potentially lifesaving and transforming cellular therapies. Supporting our customers and the broader life science field by advancing cell and gene therapies is core to our facility's mission of advancing cures for cancer and other illnesses.

How has AABB accreditation benefited your facility and impacted the services you provide? Could you share a specific example where accreditation made a significant difference for your facility?

AABB accreditation has been incredibly beneficial for Gift of Life Biologics, both in differentiating our organization within the field as a trusted cellular material provider and by expediting required initial quality assessments of new customers, along with seamlessly responding to routine quality audits.

Looking ahead, what new initiatives or developments can we expect from your facility?

Given the ongoing growing demand for apheresis, Gift of Life has recently undertaken an initiative to double our apheresis capacity. We anticipate new capacity coming online during the first half of 2025.

What would you say to staff at other facilities that may be considering AABB accreditation?

I highly encourage other facilities to engage closely with AABB and to pursue accreditation, especially for those servicing the life science field. AABB is a true partner in supporting facilities with the required procedural systems to consistently produce the highest quality cellular material from healthy donors in the safest manner.
