AABB accreditation supports emergency medical service providers, including ground and air transport and organizations performing prehospital transfusions, in meeting AABB Standards for safe handling, storage and transport of blood for transfusion at the site of injury. AABB accreditation confirms that your program follows internationally recognized standards for the storage, handling, and administration of blood in the field, helping protect patients, improving safety and reducing organizational risk.
Transfusing blood products at the point of injury can improve survival and patient outcomes by expediting life-saving care. AABB Standards and Accreditation support coordination between prehospital providers, blood suppliers and hospital partners receiving patients to help ensure transfusion safety across care settings.

AABB's Emergency Prehospital Accreditation is based on the Standards for Emergency Prehospital and Scheduled Out-of-Hospital Transfusions. These standards establish requirements for blood storage, transport and administration in out-of-hospital settings, as well as documentation, traceability, personnel qualifications, and quality system oversight.
