AABB Releases New Resources to Assist Blood Collection Facilities During IDA Implementation Period

June 02, 2023

AABB is pleased to announce the release of new resources to assist blood centers during the transition period to individual donor assessment (IDA) implementation.

The first new resource, “Timeline for Implementation of Individual Donor Assessments: Talking Points and FAQs for Blood Collection Facilities,” is designed for blood collection facilities to help inform donors and the public about the process of implementing IDA and the new eligibility criteria. AABB believes that during this interim time period, it is important that the blood community be transparent and proactive with communications. AABB has developed the talking points and FAQs in this resource to help blood center staff answer questions, to support accurate proactive communications, and clarify any misunderstandings about the timeline for implementation.

The second resource, “Information for Donors on Blood Centers’ Implementation of Individual Risk Assessment,” is a public-facing document and is designed to better inform donors and the public about IDA and the work that blood collection facilities must complete before IDA protocols can be implemented. AABB encourages facilities to share this document with members of the public who have questions about the implementation process.

Additional IDA-related resources are available on AABB’s IDA Resource Library. AABB will be releasing more resources to assist the blood community with the transition to IDA in the coming weeks and months.
