AABB Introduces New Naming Convention for Laboratory Testing Performed at Accredited Facilities

June 27, 2023

Beginning in October, the AABB Accreditation Department will introduce a new naming convention, “Donor Center Activities Including Immunohematology Testing,” to describe the laboratory activities conducted by accredited facilities on their accreditation certificates. The new naming convention will apply to certificates issued after Jan. 1, 2024.

AABB based this change on findings from a survey of donor centers that conduct laboratory testing that concluded earlier this month. The new naming convention will allow AABB to capture laboratory testing without consulting the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services database and help AABB’s accreditation databases to more accurately reflect the activities performed at accredited facilities and those printed on the accreditation certificate.
