AABB Releases 2023 Billing Guide

AABB is pleased to announce the release a revised and refreshed AABB Billing Guide for Blood Products and Related Services on the AABB website.

The Billing Guide is an indispensable tool that provides the latest information on coding, Medicare billing and reimbursement relating to blood products, including transfusion procedures and laboratory services. Through the Billing Guide, AABB aims to help hospitals set appropriate charges for blood products, report the charges consistently on claims forms, and bill for blood products using proper codes and units of services.

The Billing Guide’s seven major sections contain critical details on the rules and exceptions that apply in both inpatient and outpatient settings. This essential resource also includes a new section on pathogen testing for platelets and nine updated appendices address specific situations, such as nonhospital settings, molecular testing, physician services and handling rejected or denied claims.
