Introducing the AABB Foundation

November 02, 2022

AABB is proud to announce the relaunch of its National Blood Foundation (NBF) as the AABB Foundation.

Beginning today, the NBF will be known as the “AABB Foundation,” with updated branding and an expanded mission. The new name and branding underscore the expanding reach and growing importance of the Foundation’s work and better align the Foundation to the mission of AABB. This change celebrates all that the Foundation has accomplished in its history, prepares it for the future, and reaffirms its commitment to supporting the blood and biotherapies field.

“The Foundation has been an essential part of driving innovation in the blood and biotherapies field for almost 40 years,” said Debra BenAvram, CEO of AABB. “We are pleased to launch this new chapter for the AABB Foundation and are proud that it will continue its critical work of funding research, while expanding its mission to provide even more support for the advancement of the field.”

The NBF was originally launched in 1983 with a mission to advance the field through grant funding for original research and educational projects. During the past four decades, thanks to the generosity of our community, the Foundation raised millions of dollars to fund more than 200 early-stage investigators through the Scientific Research Grant Program. The Foundation’s support has been instrumental in helping to advance the careers of many of the field’s top researchers improving the lives of patients and donors worldwide.

Under its new name and branding, the AABB Foundation will continue the important work of funding early-stage investigators, while also expanding the ways in which it supports innovative research and education for the field.

“It’s exciting to introduce the AABB Foundation!” said James D. Gorham, MD, PhD, president of the AABB Foundation Board of Directors and chair of the AABB Foundation Scientific Research Grant Review Committee. “The new name, logo and tagline are fresh and modern, and it’s very clear who we are and what we do. 2023 marks our 40th year, and we now have an incredible opportunity to build upon our legacy to achieve greater impact.”

Hear from prior grant recipients, donors, and others working closely with the Foundation as we recognize past achievements and celebrate what’s possible for the future of the AABB Foundation. AABB invites the community to learn more about the new AABB Foundation on our website.
