New Instagram Takeover to Focus on Blood Collection During Ramadan

March 26, 2024

AABB members will take over the Association’s Instagram page on April 4 to highlight blood collection during Ramadan.

During Ramadan, the holiest month in the Islamic calendar, Muslims throughout the world perform acts of service to give back to their communities, including blood donation. They also fast during daylight hours as an act of worship and expression of gratitude, presenting unique considerations to protect donor safety. While donating blood during Ramadan is safe and does not affect fasting, blood collectors make many operational adjustments to accommodate donors during this special time.

During the Instagram takeover, Abdullah Alharbi, MSc, central blood bank supervisor at King Fahad Specialist Hospital in Buraydah, Saudi Arabia; and Nour AlMozain, MD, CABP, QIA, hematopathology and transfusion medicine consultant at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre, will showcase how the spirit of Ramadan affects blood collection efforts. They will also share how their institutions adjust to serve blood donors during Ramadan and introduce some of the blood donors saving lives at their facilities.

AABB encourages members to follow along on Instagram using the hashtag #AABBRamadan
