Washington State Attorney General Sues Stem Cell Clinic Over Misleading Claims

March 22, 2022

Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson filed a lawsuit against Seattle-based US Stemology and its owner for misleading marketing of unproven stem cell treatments for COVID-19 and dozens of other medical conditions. The lawsuit, filed in King County Superior Court last week, asserts that the company violated the Washington Consumer Protection Act by deceptively marketing stem cell treatments for serious conditions without reliable scientific evidence.

The lawsuit alleges that the company charged 107 people a total of $748,250 for unsubstantiated stem cell treatments for heart, autoimmune and neurological conditions. Additionally, the lawsuit alleges that US Stemology claimed it was treating patients as part of clinical trials, but the trials did not follow generally accepted standards of scientific research, and the researchers themselves led the so-called “independent review” of the trials.

The lawsuit asks the court to require the company to stop all unlawful conduct, pay full restitution to patients, and pay financial penalties for each violation of the Consumer Protection Act. Full details of the complaint are available on the Washington attorney general’s website
