HHS Announces New Blood Donation Campaign

August 08, 2022

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) launched a new blood donation campaign, Giving = Living, to increase awareness of the importance of donating blood and to encourage Americans to develop new, regular donation habits.

The campaign includes patient stories that highlight how blood and plasma are needed on an ongoing basis to treat a variety of life-threatening health conditions. Additional patient stories illustrate the importance of diversity in the blood supply, which helps ensure that all patients will have access to the blood they need, when they need it.

Visitors to the Giving = Living website will find information about different types of blood donation, the donation process, donor eligibility and answers to common questions and concerns. The site also links to AABB’s Blood Donation Site Locator, allowing visitors to quickly find an AABB-accredited blood collection facility near them and schedule an appointment to donate.

Furthermore, the Giving = Living campaign empowers visitors to spread the word about the importance of blood donation in their communities and includes media materials to help share how becoming a regular blood donor saves lives.
