Reminder: NBCUS Open Through April 26

April 16, 2024

The United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is collecting data for the 2023 National Blood Collection and Utilization Survey (NBCUS) through Friday, April 26.

CDC’s Office of Blood, Organ and Other Tissue Safety requests that U.S. blood collection centers and acute care hospitals performing at least 100 inpatient surgical procedures per year participate. This year’s survey includes questions related to blood collections, processing, and testing; blood and blood component transfusions; modification of components; and prices paid by hospitals for blood components.

Conducted biennially since 1997, the NBCUS is the primary method of gathering information on blood collection and use in the U.S. Its results provide federal agencies and other organizations a better understanding of blood supply and demand, providing an accurate basis for identifying and planning regulations and strategies.
